Tropical Night Rocks the Suwannee, sponsored by the Fort White Parrot Head Club, raised $2,000 for the Lake City Humane Society.

Mike Griffin, vice president of the club, and club treasurer Vickie Griffin presented the check to Terry Marques, Executive Director of the Lake City Humane Society on Thursday afternoon. Pam Taylor, the K9 professor who works at the shelter, joined the event and brought two pets that need forever homes, a yellow Labrador retriever and an 8-week old kitten.

Marques thanked the Parrot Heads for hosting the event at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. He said three of the dogs in the Parade of Paws at the event were adopted. "Also two of our youth volunteers collected over $200 in the donation jar from the attendees."

Jimmy Parrish & the Ocean Waves Band headlines the event on Saturday, May 30. The Steel Bridge Band from Cross City and Trop rock singer Brent Burns also were featured.

During the check presentation, Griffin announced that the Fort White Parrot Club, in recognition of its expanding base of members, is changing its name to the Suwannee River Parrot Head Club.

The Fort White Parrot Head Club is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving and improving the environment, active in community oriented projects and concerns as a means of social interaction with like-minded people interested in the lifestyle and music of Jimmy Buffett. They are strong supporters of the Lake City Humane Society. Click on the link below for more information about the club.
